   These are the Debian-Hurd binaries for the packages procps and htop. If you want to try them on the procfs I have been writing as a part of Google Summer of Code 2008, the source code of procfs is available in the git repository. The git clone url is git://

so the git command is

$ git clone git://

To compile the code just run make in the src directory and to set it as a translator, please run

$ settrans -fgap /proc procfs
from the directory where you have compiled the procfs source.

Further just install the binaries you download from here using the command dpkg -i

# dpkg -i procps_3.2.7-8_hurd-i386.deb
# dpkg -i htop_0.7-1_hurd-i386.deb

And a request for all those who are interested in testing these tools. First of all I thank you a lot for your interest. But when you test procps tools, please test only pgrep, pkill, kill and top since those were the tools which were aimed to be made to run out of the box on Hurd. So within procps please test only these tools. Please report the bugs you find any either in procfs or in procps or in htop. You can send the bug reports, suggestions of any kind or your experience or whatever you feel about my work to any one of my email IDs.

I will make the Debian-Hurd source packages patched for the procps package soon. But as far as htop is concerned there is no need to patch things, if you want to test with source package of htop you can do so by running the following commands.

$ apt-get source htop
$ cd (htop-directory)
$ dpkg-buildpackage -uc -B

(make sure Python is installed to build htop from source)
